| Why I wrote this book: Understanding Parkinson's Disease.
A Self Help Guide.
When I was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease (PD) in 1989, my life changed forever. At first I felt alone, useless and depressed. I missed my practice of dermatology that I loved. As each year passed I was becoming more of a victim of my disease, broken in body and spirit. And then something inside of me changed. I realized my medications were working and the disease was progressing less rapidly than I had anticipated. I decided I would no longer be a victim and would reclaim my life. To this end I changed my attitude, learned all I could about PD and began a concerted effort at self-help. My search for a better life became a crusade not only for myself, but hopefully for all who suffer from PD. I wrote this book not only to help myself but to help the thousands of other people face this disease with new hope and optimism.
