Harry L. Arnold, Jr., M.D.

Dr. Arnold, born August 7, 1912, in Owosso, Michigan, and graduated from the University of Michigan in 1935. He was trained at the Dermatology Department in 1936-1939, obtained a MS Degree in dermatology in 1936, and was certified by the American Board of Dermatology and Syphilology in 1941. He started practice at the Straub Clinic in Honolulu, Hawaii, in 1939, until he moved to San Francisco in 1988 and practiced at 450 Sutter Street. Dr. Arnold held a teaching position at University of Hawaii, School of Medicine (1969-1988). His contributions to the professional societies are numerous and include presidencies in the American Academy of Dermatology (1975), American Dermatology Association (1970-1971), Pacific Dermatology Association (1968), and American Board of Dermatology (1973). The Centennial History of American Dermatological Association* has commented thusly: Harry Arnold has accomplished about everything that is possible in dermatology. In addition, he is an amateur parliamentarian, a cook, and an expert on leprosy. He is the author of 162 scientific articles, textbook Modern Concepts of Leprosy, and co-author of the second edition of Leprosy, Diagnosis and Management.
