Tokyo Arrival of PSRC Members

In the 1970's, we often took a route to go to Tokyo by China Air Lines from San Francisco.  The plane left SF Airport at midnight, and arrived at Tokyo Haneda Airport in the early morning.  It was too early for shopping, checking into hotels and other activities, so we went to the Meiji Shrine in Yoyogi, Tokyo by a chartered bus directly from the airport.

The Meiji Shrine is dedicated to Emperor Meiji and his consort, who were the great grand parents of the present Emperor.  Emperor Meiji was one of the greatest rulers Japan has ever had. The Imperial Restoration of 1867 which forms a most conspicuous landmark in the long history of Japan occurred during his reign.  In spite of the early morning, impressive numbers of people were seen on the approach to the Shrine, where the big Torii Gate symbolizing Shintou stands as a stark memorial.

After the morning exercise, our destination was the Imperial Arcade, near Ginza
district, by popular request. In those days, several shopping locations in Tokyo were particularly attractive to the foreigner visitors eyes.

In the evening Dr. Masakatsu Izaki invited us to a dinner party served by a French chef in a private room of the Palace Hotel

Dr Izaki selecting wine.

Members enjoying the unexpected experience.
