A native of Edwardsville, Pennsylvania, Dr. Theodore Tromovitch graduated from Clark University in Worcester, Massachusetts, and received his medical degree from Boston University.  He completed his studies at New York University, San Francisco General Hospital and Tulane University in New Orleans.  As a recipient of a fellowship at the University of California, San Francisco, he began his pioneering work in the treatment of difficult skin cancers.  He and associate Dr. Samuel Stegman are recognized as the developers of an advanced surgical and pathological technique for the eradication of recurrent skin cancer.  A clinical professor of dermatology at UCSF, Dr. Tromovitch also practiced in Burlingame and was affiliated with Mills-Peninisula Hospital.

Dr. Tromovitch was a member of numerous national professional organizations, including the American Academy of Dermatology.  He served as president of the American College of the Mohs Micrographic Surgery and Cutaneous Oncology and the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery, which presented him with the Goldman Award in 1989 for his outstanding contributions to the field.  The author of more than 100 articles in medical literature and co-author of three textbooks, Dr. Tromovitch served as a consulting editor for the Journal of Dermatologic Surgery and Oncology and was a director of the Skin Cancer Foundation.
